阿修羅は本来は生命・生気を与える善神であったが、仏教に入って、一種の鬼神として取り扱われる。八部衆の一つで、須弥山の北に阿修羅宮を設け、常に叨利天の帝釈天と戦う。造形はさまざまで、興福寺にある天平時代作の三面六臂像は有名。AshuraThough Ashura was originally a virtue god for live and spirit, he has been treated as a kind of fierce god since he was adapted into Buddhism. He is one of the members of Hachibushuu; built an Ashura-temple in Mt.Sumisen. He always fights with Taishsaku Ten. There are various forms. The deity with three faces and six arms made in Tenpyo era. The one enshrined in Koufukuji-temple is famous.
